- Definition: A two-dimensional barcode standardized by the European Payments Council (EPC) for the rapid initiation of SEPA credit transfers. It serves as a convenient digital interface on printed or electronic invoices.

- How it works: The code encodes all payment-related data, such as the recipient’s name, IBAN, amount, and payment reference. When scanned using a mobile banking app, the transfer form is automatically and fully populated. This saves time, simplifies the payment process, and reliably eliminates manual typing errors.
- Technical specifications:
- Spezification: EPC069-12(opens in new tab)
- Error correction: Level M (15 %)
- Character encoding: UTF-8
- Compatibility: Supported by almost all German financial institutions (e.g., Sparkasse, VR-Banks, DKB) as well as across borders within the SEPA area.
